Dust-Control Sanding

What is dust-control sanding?

Old-style open sanders throw fine wood dust into the air, where it drifts through the house and settles on everything.

Our sanders are vacuum-fed, so the dust is pulled away at the drum as the floor is sanded. It's not magic, since no sanding is truly dust-free, but your home stays dramatically cleaner than with old-style open sanders.

Why it matters

  • A dramatically cleaner home during the work
  • Less dust settling on furniture, vents and shelves
  • A dead-flat surface that takes stain evenly
  • Work staged room by room, so you keep living spaces usable
  • Timing and ventilation planned around pets and family

★★★★★

"We had all of our hardwood floors refinished before we moved in, about 3,500 sq ft of mixed wood types, plus our huge back deck. The result is absolutely stunning. Everything now looks completely cohesive, with a smooth, beautiful finish that ties the whole house together."

Good questions

Questions about dust-control sanding

How much dust will there be?

Far less than you'd expect. We use dust-control sanding equipment that pulls dust at the drum, before it reaches your air. It's not magic, since no sanding is truly dust-free, but your home stays dramatically cleaner than with old-style open sanders.

Can we stay in the house during the work?

Often, yes. We can stage the work room by room so you keep living spaces usable. Finishes do give off odor while they cure, so we'll talk through timing and ventilation with you and plan around pets and family.

Do you move the furniture?

We'll handle the heavy lifting on the work area and protect everything that stays. We'll ask you to clear small, fragile, and valuable items ahead of time, and we'll go over exactly what to expect before we start.

How long does a floor take?

Most rooms are sanded, stained, and sealed within a few days. A whole-home restoration or new install runs longer. We'll give you a realistic schedule with your estimate, and we hold to it.
